4 Items to Consider When Developing an International Recruitment Strategy - Spark Hire
4 Items to Consider When Developing an International Recruitment Strategy - Spark HireWhen running a recruitment business, there is notlagehing more exciting than the possibility of taking your business international. When the time comes for you to begin forming your international recruitment strategy, there are several key items that you should consider in order to ensure international success.1. Country lawsBefore you do anything, make sure you have fully investigated what you must do in order to conduct business internationally. Not only do you want to ensure that you are conducting business legally, but you should also check into specific employment laws. For example, a temporary staffing company may have difficulty employing people in some countries on a temporary basis due to employment laws. Each country has its own individual laws regarding the operation of businesses. Determine which countries you will be doing business in and investigate each countrys laws to make sure you k now what to do. In most countries, you must have some sort of presence or tie to the country in order to legally do business there.Do your research. It would be terrible to find out you are operating illegally and perhaps face fines as well as risk being banned from a country due to your lack of knowledge.2. Language barriersOf course, English is the international business language. However, it is much easier to conduct business in a country when you are able to communicate in the countrys language. Depending on the type of staffing you will be involved in, many of the candidates many not understand or speak English well.Consider your strategy for doing business in different countries and how you will communicate. Will you hire translators? Will you hire locals to work for you? No matter the plan, be sure that your business does not face a language barrier.3. Culture and customsIf you are doing business in another country, it is wise to understand the countrys culture and customs. W hile it may be appropriate to shake hands at a business meeting in your country, it may not be acceptable in another country. Something as small as this can risk your companys reputation.By understanding the customs and culture of the country you are doing business in, you will be seen as a professional by other business owners and professionals.4. Interview processOnce you understand the legal requirements and how you will do business internationally, it is important for you to begin forming your bewerbungsgesprch process. If you have decided to hire a local to conduct interviews, you will want to make sure that this person understands your company, business, and vision. Constant contact and training is important. If you plan to be involved in the interview process, it is important to decide how involved you will be. For example, do you plan on constantly traveling overseas to be involved in interviews and candidate screenings, or do you plan on conducting phone screenings and allow ing a local employee to source and interview candidates face-to-face?Keep in mind your budget and expenses. Rather than flying internationally, consider live video interviews. A live video interview will allow you many of the same benefits as a face-to-faceinterview. You will be able to see the candidates and interact with them just as if you wereseeing them in person. Saving the expense of flights, transportation, hotels, etc. can make a huge cost savings difference when you are recruiting internationally.Understand that recruiting internationally is not something that can be done on a whim. You must do your research and planning in order to make sure you are conducting business legally and successfully. What are some things you have considered when putting together your international recruitment strategy? Please share your experiences and suggestions below.Image STori/BigStock.com

How to show multiple positions on your resume
How to show multiple positions on your resumeHow to show multiple positions on your resumeHow to show multiple positions on your resumeJob seekers holding multiple positions at the same company are faced with a dilemma describe every position in detail (and use up valuable resume space), or consolidate for greater readability? The following are tips on how to show multiple positions on your resumeHow recently did you work at the company? If your most recent work history is with the company, then separating out individual positions is usually the best bet. Recruiters/hiring managers tend to focus heavily on the last 10-12 years of a candidates work history. By this logic, if the company youve held multiple positions at falls outside of this range, consolidate responsibilities and accomplishments within a single entry. What did you achieve during your time at the company? Results matter more than anything else on a professional resume. Analyze your history at the company in question with a n eye towards concrete successes. Do you have enough to justify listing positions separately, or would consolidating them into a single entry present you more efficiently? A good compromise between these two options is only to list the fruchtwein RECENT position separately, followed by a Career Note that briefly encapsulates older positions. How pertinent is your work at the company with regards to the type of position being targeted?Detail is all well and good, but unless your work at the company directly ties into the kind of position youre seeking with the resume, keep it short and to-the-point. There is nothing frustrates a hiring agent quite like slogging through extraneous work credits.Different EmployersOnce you have many positions with various employers and you need to do your resume editing, you should incorporate the roles into similar occupations. Job seekers who have had some different employers will benefit from combining their previous tasks into categories. For example , if you had a series of jobs as an administrative assistant and full-time assistant for several different employers, create a subheading under it Work History called Executive and Management Assistant Positions. Above the subheading, put the start date of your first executive or administrative assistant position, then a dash, followed by the date of your last executive or administrative assistant position. Beneath this subheading, list the names of your business employers and describe duties that were common for each and every role.Same EmployerFor those who have held several different positions with the same workplace, it is crucial to showcase that youre promotable or able to work cross-functionally. Within the heading Work History, put the employers name, then the location and employment date ranges. Use the date you commenced working for the company and the day you left the corporation. After that, list your most current position, followed by an interval and the dates you were in that role. Under the title of your position, describe your obligations in one to 2 sentences. Keep your points brief. Repeat this for the other positions you held with the same company, listing them in reverse chronological order.Professional CompetenciesTask hunters with a prolonged work history might profit from a functional curriculum vitae format rather than a date one. A functional application doesnt contain the company name, title and career dates for each and every job it combines components of every job youve had into professional competencies. Professional competencies are tasks and tasks you have performed in all of your jobs. You may have done the same duties each and every job as a registered professional nurse, so its unnecessary to list individual nursing functions at several hospitals, treatment centers or physicians offices.Resumes should be prepared with care and proper resume editing should be done. They should be thoughtfully proofread, updated, and tailored t o each position. If you put time and effort into your resume, the chances are good that your potential employer will take the time to give it careful consideration.

Mind Your Social Netiquette
Mind Your Social NetiquetteMind Your Social NetiquetteYour manners and etiquette matter online in social networks.Social networking Web sites are becoming an indispensable part of the job search. As your relationships move online, its easy to track and manage your contacts and connections. Unfortunately, its also easy to forget your social skills. Ignoring a contacts hello feels less harsh when its done from 3,000 miles away. Sharing a racy joke with the group seems harmless when its done on your mobile phone between interviews. But snubs still sting, and tawdry remains tactless.According to social networking experts, everything you need to succeed in the medium, you learned in kindergarten.Theyre the same social rules as anywhere else, said Lindsay Olson, a partner and recruiter at Paradigm Staffing, who uses social networking to identify potential recruits and vet candidates once their names have come up. Theres a very thin line between keeping in touch and blatant self promotion. S tepping over that line will really turn people off.Make Friends and Earn FavorsThe key is to keep the other part in mind and go out of your way to be both polite and helpful - before you need help yourself, said Paul Gillin, a social networking consultant at Paul Gillin Communications and author of The New Influencers and Secrets of Social Media Marketing. The etiquette is that you help people out and then when you need it, they help you out in return, Gillin said. The social networking site LinkedIn provides built-in ways for people to contribute. Members can submit questions to the group, plead for jobs, post openings at their company and recommend a friend or colleague. Providing answers, resources or tips passing along a resume or making an introduction can build social equity, Gillin said.Be Useful, elend PleadingTwitter is a microblogging site that allows users to post brief (140-character) messages that can be read by members in their network, called followers. Some use Twitte r messages, called Tweets, to broadcast their location or status on a project, or just to say hello to a friend. Resourceful job seekers have made Twitter part of their self-promotion engine. But be sure bedrngnis to inundate followers with a constant stream of boasts, Olson said. Blatant self promotion or begging for work will turn off your audienceIf youre using a site like Twitter or Facebook to promote yourself, make sure you slip your sales pitch in between useful ingestaltation like articles from trade publications, white papers on your industry and helpful advice.Dont Be Shy Dont Be PushyDont hesitate to ask for introductions to anothers contact or circle and expect to do the same, said Gillin. It feels like trading, but its networking, he said.(Theres nothing) wrong with asking people to write a recommendation its a normal business request, he said. Its a give-to-get situation. Often when you write a recommendation, even unsolicited, youll get one in return. But dont shake d own your contacts, said Isabel Walcott Hilborn, owner of Strategic Internet Consulting and founder of SmartGirl.com, a 200,000-member social network for teenage girls. People are nice. They usually are happy to help if its a genuine request and not just spam or self promotion.Dont be a CreepConsider the creep factor when calling someone youve researched online or through social networks, Gillin said.If someone contacted you out of thin air and had all this information about you that you didnt know was out there, that might creep you out, Gillin said. The way to get around that is to be open with who you are and where you got the information. Say, ZoomInfo said you used to work at this company while I was there too, and I was hoping to make a connection.Adopt a professional manner its a business contact, and youre reaching out in a business sense, he said. Dont make it overly personal. That eliminates a lot of the creep factor.Be ActiveA public profile can put you on someones radar o r keep you there, Olson said. Whether you submitted your resume cold or you were in for an interview, a connection on a social network and frequent activity can keep your name in a recruiters or contacts ear. People arent going to remember me because I made one recruiting call to them five years ago, Olson said, but if they see me posting things all the time, theyre going to know who I am when I call.BehaveAs any number of college students and one Miss America contestant can tell you, its bad form to record your indiscretions and post the evidence on a public Web site. Embarrassing photos or remarks can surface during your job search. Recruiters and hiring managers routinely search social networking sites for background information, and many will hold photos of youthful hijinks against you.Get Googled Get FoundA Web developer doesnt rely on luck to drive readers to his Web site. He uses search engine optimization (SEO) to increase the likelihood search engines will showcase his Web pages. Your profiles on LinkedIn and other social networks should be no different. Make sure recruiters can find you.SEO relies on the concept that the more prominently a Web page appears in search results, the more searchers will visit the page. Optimizing your profile pushes it toward the top.SEO marketers (a budding job classification) add keywords, which are the terms that are most likely to be queried by a Web searcher interested in the topic you are trying to promote - in this case, your career. If you want to be noticed by anyone who needs a Database Administrator with MySQL experience, your profile should include those specific terms, instead of more generic or less descriptive terms like DBA or database admin and any specific languages or skills the recruiter might search for.Choosing the right network for your profile can also help. While Facebook might be a larger, more useful network for your profession, LinkedIn is particularly well positioned for Google searches.Promo te Your Ambitions, Not Your PastNow that youve finished optimizing your profile for search, make sure it matches what you want to do, not just what youve done, Olson said. Choose words that match your aspirations, not just your history. If I were a digital-marketing person and I wanted to move into an SEO job, Id put it in as an area of interest or whatever, she said, as long as I got those keywords into the text so I could be found on those searches.Dont Just Use One NetworkLinkedIn may be the most widely known and used social network purely for business contacts. However it isnt right for everyone or every situation. You may run into situations where you identify a company or individual you need to contact and use other searches to find e-mail addresses, phone numbers or other information to get you closer to that contact. ZoomInfo, Spock and other business-information aggregation sites are great places to gather information about your target companies or hiring managers.Finish the JobThe biggest mistake most people make using LinkedIn, Facebook and social networks is that they dont complete their profiles with all the content about their experience, skills and miscellaneous information that could be relevant. Whats more, they dont pursue contacts, said Shally Steckerl, a recruiting consultant and founder of Jobmachine.com. Omitting information makes it difficult for recruiters to find your profile and hard for your network to connect you to new opportunities through mutual contacts.Follow ThroughYour network doesnt build itself. You have to take advantage of the opportunities to expand your reach. When you meet someone at an event or on the phone, ask if she minds if you link to her, then do it.Its exactly like real life, like a virtual water cooler where you talk to your friends or co-workers, Hilborn said. If youre the kind of person who never needs anything a job or a plumber or advice on how to raise your baby go ahead and skip the whole social network ing thing. But if you ever need anything from anyone else, social networks can help you.

3 reasons why you shouldnt abandon your job search in December
3 reasons why you shouldnt abandon your job search in December3 reasons why you shouldnt abandon your job search in DecemberYoure thinking about gracefully leaving your company soon in an effort to finally reinvent yourself for the new year, but doubt has set in.So after scouring job posting websites for weeks on end, the holidays come around and your huntcomes to a screeching halt.Is December really the right time to look? While it would be much easier to sit back, relax, and worry about finding a new position once its officially 2018, heres why that might not be the best approach. You can kill two birds with one stone at social eventsNetworking is always a good idea, so take advantage of holiday gatherings.Accounting Principals senior vice president Kathy Gans told Business Insider about how this can work in your favor. The holiday season is filled with holiday parties and events, which makes it the perfect time of year to network Fellow party-goers may be willing to put you in touch with potential connections, she told the site. There might be more openings than you thinkYou never know. Why stop now?Nancy Collamer, a career coach, speaker, author and blogger for NextAvenue.org, writes in Forbes that in December, vacancies occur soon after some people receive year-end bonuses and quit.Employers are then often left scrambling to fill these openings, she writes. As a former HR manager, I can tell you that trying to bring on new staffers rather than taking time off for the holidays was a royal pain in the neck. I tended to fill those vacancies with more urgency (and a bit less caution) than at other times of the year. You might just beat others to the chaseBree Silveira, sales recruiter at Glassdoor, told the site about this idea. The job market notoriously slows down during the holidays because lots of people are planning family vacations and trips home and are not looking to make a move until after the New Year. By staying active during this time, you are staying ah ead of the competition. December is the time to take advantage of and get in front of hiring in January when companies get their new hiring budgets, she said. When you choose to apply is ultimately up to you, but keep in mind that just because its the end of the year, that doesnt mean that you should stop your job search.

Beware of the Job Search Scams
Beware of the Job Search Scams Beware of the Job Search Scams I just received an emaille pitching me on a new service for job seekers. Apparently, for *only* $10 per lead, this person (who I will not mention or link to) will find you contact names and information for hiring managers at your target companies. So for $100, you can have 10 names and email addresses. Names and email addresses that you could find yourself using sites like Google, LinkedIn and ZoomInfo along with some good old-fashioned sleuthing. And names and email addresses of people who may not even be hiring new staff right now. This is a complete scam and I would have just deleted the email if it wasnt for the fact that I am seeing more and more of these pitches. This particular scammer gleefully described the current unemployment numbers along with the projected numbers for later in the year. I could just picture the guy sitting in his office drooling over all the bad news and hatching one scheme after another to cap italize on other peoples misfortune.Look, there are lots of ethical, talented career marketing professionals out there. There are good research services who can help you develop a list of solid contacts and who will do it for a lot less than $10 per lead. (For one such service, check out Barbara Safani at Career Solvers). There are lots of honest and gifted resume writers and career coaches. But in this current economic climate, there are also going to be a lot of people who see an opportunity to prey upon fear so its critical that you do your research if youre considering hiring anyone to help with your search. Here are a few tips for avoiding the scammers1) If it seems too good to be true, it is. If some company emails you saying they have a great opportunity and they want to discuss it with you, be very wary. Take the call hey you never know but be aware that lots of so-called career marketing firms use this pitch to try selling their services. If this is a real job opportunity , the recruiter will tell you about the sttte and ask some interview questions on the phone. If its a scam, the sales person will tell you that youre qualified for lots of positions but first you need some help with your resume and marketing strategy. Hang up at that point2.) Google is your friend If youre considering any professional service, research the company and the companys President/owner on Google. Read more than just the first page. Youll find out lots about their reputation, how they operate and how long they have been in business.3) Look for a blog. Any professional career marketer worth his or her salt should be blogging regularly. Any company worth its salt should have employees blogging regularly. If theyre not, they dont understand how to market effectively in todays world and if they cant market themselves, why should you believe they can help you market yourself?A blog also lets you see how much the expert knows. I bet my friend with the $10 job leads doesnt have a blog because I bet my friend with the $10 job leads hasnt been involved in career marketing until just now.4). Ask questions and shop around. No matter how much you like the first company you find, be sure to do some shopping around. Doing so may raise issues you hadnt initially thought of and at the very least, if you leise choose the first company you found, youll feel more informed about the choice. This is a worrying time for all of us and unfortunately there are lots of people looking to take advantage. Be smart about doing your research and youll easily be able to tell the difference.
